Answer: No. The U.S. officially turned over administration of the Panama Canal on December 31, 1999, to the Republic of Panama, in accordance with the terms of the Panama Canal Treaty. That treaty has now terminated. The Treaty Concerning the Permanent Neutrality and Operation of the Panama Canal, which is still in force, does not deal with the issue of expansion. 2006/952 |
