Initial Meeting of the US-Russia Led Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism, October 30-31, 2006

Representatives from twelve nations will attend the initial meeting of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism in Rabat, Morocco on October 30-31. The Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism was jointly announced by Presidents Bush and Putin on July 15, 2006, prior to the G8 Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. Both Presidents Bush and Putin expressed their commitment to combating the threat of nuclear terrorism and pursuing the necessary steps to counter this threat with other willing partner nations. The Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism will enhance cooperation between and build the capacity of all willing partner nations to combat nuclear terrorism. This first meeting will be an important step in shaping the partner nations’ capacity building activities undertaken through the framework of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism.
