Japan -- Extension of Special Measures Law on Anti-Terrorism

The United States welcomes the decision by the Japanese Diet on October 26 to extend the Special Measures Law on Anti-Terrorism which authorizes Japan’s Self Defense Forces to provide rear-area logistical support for Operation Enduring Freedom. The United States values highly Japan’s support for coalition efforts made possible by this legislation. Japan's support also reflects the important role that Japan is playing in the international community’s struggle against terrorism.
