OES Assistant Secretary Claudia A. McMurray to Participate in the 2007 Global Compact Leaders Summit in Geneva, Switzerland

Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans, Environment, and Science, Claudia A. McMurray, will represent the United States at the 2007 Global Compact Leaders Summit, held in Geneva, Switzerland, July 5-6.

The summit, "Facing Realities: Getting Down to Business," is one of the largest and most significant international events held promoting leadership and corporate citizenship. The solutions-oriented summit will allow top decision-makers to access newly released information on social, economic, and political trends that will guide the development of strategic frameworks addressing critical issues including human rights, environmental protection, anti-corruption, and access to finance and capital.

The Global Compact is a voluntary international multi-stakeholder partnership, introduced in 1999 by former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan. The initiative is designed to bring companies together with UN agencies and civil society to support international environmental and social principles. Senior representatives from approximately 100 nations will attend the meeting.
