Deputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte to Address the Business Council for International Understanding

Deputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte will address the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) luncheon on Thursday, July 19, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in Plaza Ballroom I and II of the Ritz Carlton Hotel, 1150 22nd Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. The Deputy Secretary will take questions from the audience after his remarks on international economic engagement.

The Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) was founded in 1955, at the initiative of President Eisenhower. The intent was to support U.S. business interests abroad by bringing together member company executives and newly confirmed U.S. Ambassadors to discuss common concerns facing operations in constituent markets. Since that time, BCIU programs have expanded to include discussions with heads of states, cabinet-level officials, and senior officials serving U.S. and foreign governments and multilateral organizations throughout the world.

The Deputy Secretary’s remarks and questions and answers will be open for press coverage.

Pre-set time for cameras: 11:00 a.m.-11:45 a.m. from 22nd Street entrance

Cameras must be pre-set between these times. Access for cameras after 11:45 a.m. will not be permitted.

Final access time for all press: 12:30 p.m.

Media representatives must present one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver's license or passport).
