| Media Note Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC February 1, 2007 Second Meeting of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism February 12-13, 2007Representatives of the thirteen partner nations of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism will meet in Ankara, Turkey February 12-13 to adopt a plan of work to implement the statement of principles agreed upon by these nations at the October 2006 meeting in Rabat, Morocco. At this second meeting, partner nations will agree upon a number of activities in the coming months designed to build international cooperation to combat the threat of nuclear terrorism. The Global Initiative activities are designed to develop each state's individual and collective capacity to deter, detect, prevent, and respond to nuclear terrorism, including securing radioactive sources, deterring nuclear smuggling, and improving law enforcement actions. The Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism was jointly announced by Presidents Bush and Putin at the 2006 G8 Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia, to express their joint commitment to combat the threat of nuclear terrorism and pursue the necessary steps to do so with other willing partner nations.
