| Press Statement Sean McCormack, Spokesman Washington, DC June 12, 2007 Comoros Island Elections ConcernsWe commend the Government of the Union of the Comoros for the successful elections held on the islands of Grand Comore and Moheli on June 10, and for moving ahead with the election on Anjouan Island scheduled for June 17. The people of Anjouan should be able to express their will in a peaceful, free, fair and transparent democratic vote, and we urge former island governor Bacar to respect the decision of the people of Anjouan during these elections.
We also applaud the positive role of the African Union in attempting to resolve the current impasse. |
