U.S. Signs Open Skies Aviation Agreement with Georgia

The United States and Georgia will sign a comprehensive Open Skies framework expanding and liberalizing our bilateral civil aviation relations on June 21, 2007 at 11:45 a.m. in Room 4477 at the U.S. Department of State’s Harry S. Truman Building in Washington, DC. Assistant Secretary for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs Daniel S. Sullivan and Minister of Economic Development George Arveladze will sign for their respective governments. Both parties will make short remarks after the signing, and the event is open to the media.

The agreement was reached after a year of consultations between officials of Georgia’s Ministry of Economic Development and a U.S. interagency team chaired by State’s Bureau of Economic, Energy and Business Affairs and including officials from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Open Skies agreement comprises one part of a substantial package of economic cooperation initiatives with Georgia.

Preset time for cameras: 11:00 a.m. via 23rd Street Entrance

Final access for all press: 11:30 a.m. via 23rd Street Entrance

To attend this event, media representatives must present one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver's license or passport).
