President Bush and Prime Minister Blair Complete Signing of U.S.-UK Defense Trade Cooperation Treaty

U.S. President George W. Bush and UK Prime Minister Tony Blair have completed the signing of the U.S.-UK Defense Trade Cooperation Treaty on June 26.

This treaty marks the culmination of several years of discussion about technology transfer and related defense trade matters between the Governments of the United Kingdom and the United States. If ratified by both governments, the treaty will allow most defense goods, services, and information intended for use by the authorities of the two countries to be exchanged without the requirement for an export license. The treaty will foster an even closer defense and security relationship between our nations, improve the capabilities of our armed forces to operate together, and make our cooperative research and development programs more efficient and effective.

The treaty will be forwarded promptly to the Senate for advice and consent to ratification.
