Italy: Reaction to Italian Parliament Vote to Continue Funding for Afghanistan

Question:   What is the Department of State's reaction to the Italian Parliament voting to continue funding Italy's military mission in Afghanistan?

Answer:   As Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Dan Fried said at a Foreign Press Center Briefing on Wednesday, March 28, 2007: "We welcome the Italian parliament's decision to support its Afghanistan mission. We welcome the Italian participation and contribution to NATO's Afghan mission. We very much appreciate what Italy is doing and we appreciate Italy's commitment to keep working in support of the Afghan people."
