Department of State Ranks High in 2007 as Ideal Employer Among Minority Students

In an annual poll of minority undergraduates, the Department of State ranked highly as an ideal employer. Philadelphia-based Universum Communications reported that for the second year in a row, the Department surpasses the rankings of other Federal agencies. Universum announced its 2007 survey results that are based on the responses of 12,247 minority undergraduates in the Class of 2007.

Of the top 100 employers, the Department of State ranked:

  • first as ideal employer among Native American/American Indian undergraduates, up from fifth last year
  • third as ideal employer for all Hispanic and African-American undergraduates, up from eighth last year

We believe these rankings have resulted in part from our aggressive recruiting efforts. As Secretary Rice has said, "The signal sent to the rest of the world when America is represented abroad by people of all cultures, races and religions is an unsurpassed statement about who we are and what our values mean in practice."
