| Fact Sheet (Revised) Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC June 3, 2008 Latest Figures on Iraqi Refugee Admissions and Humanitarian AidU.S. Government humanitarian aid for Iraqi refugees, conflict victims and internally displaced persons now stands at $208 million for this fiscal year (from October 1, 2007 until today). The United States has been the largest contributor to programs assisting displaced Iraqis since 2003, funding programs for food, health, education, water and sanitation, emergency shelter and protection.
The United States remains committed to meeting our target of resettling 12,000 of the most vulnerable Iraqi refugees by September 30, 2008. Between October 1, 2007 and May 31, 2008, 4,742 Iraqis were resettled in the United States as refugees. In addition, 636 Iraqis received Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) between October 1, 2007 and April 30, 2008. (The number of SIVs issued to Iraqis in May 2008 is not yet available.)
