Death of Archbishop Rahho

We condemn the kidnapping of Monsignor Paulos Faraj Rahho, Archbishop of the Chaldean Church of Mosul, and mourn his death. This deplorable and senseless act of violence was committed against a person of faith who has dedicated his entire life to the pursuit of peace and reconciliation between different faiths and groups. We sympathize with the concerns of all minority communities and all innocent civilians in Iraq who are feeling pressure from violence, terrorism and aggression. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Archbishop, his congregation and his family during this dark hour.

We will continue to work with the Iraqi government to protect and support civilians throughout Iraq, including all minorities and victims of violence, irrespective of religious affiliation.
