U.S.-Japan Investment Working Group

The U.S.-Japan Investment Working Group held a digital videoconference on March 17 to discuss policies and measures to attract foreign direct investment into the U.S. and Japanese economies. Department of State Economic Coordinator for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Ambassador Patricia Haslach and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Deputy Director General for Trade and Economic Cooperation Nobuhiko Sasaki co-chaired the meeting, which also included officials from the U.S. Departments of Treasury, Commerce, and Justice and the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office as well as Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both sides agreed that foreign direct investment benefits recipient economies. They reaffirmed their commitment to an open investment environment and promised further efforts to improve the transparency and mutual understanding of rules for foreign investment.

The Investment Working Group last met in October 2007 in Washington, D.C.
