Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to Make Remarks at the Launch of the “One Woman Initiative” Fund for Women’s Empowerment

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will give remarks at the launch of the “One Woman Initiative” Fund for Women’s Empowerment on May 12, 2008 at 12:15 p.m. in the Benjamin Franklin Room of the U.S. Department of State.

The public-private partnership of corporations, foundations, and U.S. government will apply $100 million to empower women. The Fund will support programs such as business training for women entrepreneurs, skill-building to help women take greater roles in politics and leadership, and efforts to increase women’s access to justice.

Henrietta H. Fore, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator and Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance, will make remarks followed by Secretary Rice’s remarks. The Secretary will be joined by Initiative Chair Carly Fiorina, Chairman and CEO of Carly Fiorina Enterprises; and Co-Chairs Sheila Johnson, philanthropist, entrepreneur and co-founder of BET; Farooq Kathwari, CEO of Ethan Allen Interiors; and Pat Mitchell, President and CEO, The Paley Center for Media.

The remarks will be open for press coverage.

Pre-set time for cameras: 11:00 a.m. from the 23rd Street entrance.
Final access time for all press: 12:00 p.m. from the 23rd Street entrance.

To attend this event, members of the media must present one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver's license or passport). Press should enter at 23rd Street Entrance.
