Secretary of State Rice and Foreign Secretary Miliband Travel to California

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Miliband will travel to California on Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23.

While in California, Secretary of State Rice and Foreign Secretary Miliband will visit Bloom Energy to receive briefings on renewable energy development and participate in a roundtable with employees. The Secretaries will also visit Google, where they will tour the “Googleplex,” receive updates on the company’s cutting-edge technologies, and participate in a “Fireside Chat” with Google employees. The Secretaries will also participate in a joint press availability at Google. Later in their visit, they will participate in roundtables with business leaders, venture capitalists, and entrepreneurs to discuss Silicon Valley’s dynamic economy.

The joint press availability by Secretary Rice and Foreign Secretary Miliband on the Google campus will be open for media coverage. The event will be held in the main courtyard of the Google campus at 3:25 p.m. PDT; final access time for press will be at 2:30 p.m. PDT. Members of the press who wish to attend must RSVP via email to Google with their name and the name of their media organization no later than Wednesday, May 21 at 3:00 p.m. PDT.

Media representatives may attend open press events upon presentation of one of the following: (1) a media-issued photo identification card, (2) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver’s license or passport), (3) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center).
