The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations and the Bureau of Administration announced the award of a $135.4 million contract to build a New Embassy Compound (NEC) in Monrovia, Liberia.
The NEC in Monrovia will be constructed by B.L. Harbert International, LLC of Birmingham, Alabama.
The project consists of a chancery, a support annex - warehouse, a general services annex and a Marine Security Guard quarters and three compound access control facilities. The NEC will provide safe, secure and functional facility for 619 employees who will work at the embassy.
The 18 acre site located in the Mamba Point neighborhood in Monrovia was acquired on a long-term lease from the University of Liberia for $2.43 million in 2008.
The NEC will replace the embassy which was constructed in 1963-66. The proposed completion date for the Monrovia NEC is 2012.
