On the passing of former Argentine President Raúl Alfonsín, we would like to express our condolences to his family, the people of Argentina, and the Government of Argentina.
President Alfonsín was a seminal figure in the consolidation of democracy in Latin America. He is widely respected for his work to restore democracy and respect for human rights in Argentina in the aftermath of the military dictatorship. In Argentina, his personal integrity and commitment to democratic institutions are held in the highest esteem.
