Secretary Clinton to Participate in Australia-United States Ministerial Consultations (AUSMIN)

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates will meet with Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith and Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon for this year’s Australia-United States Ministerial Consultations (AUSMIN) at the U.S. Department of State on Thursday, April 9, 2009. Among the topics on the agenda will be the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan, strengthening the international non-proliferation regime, and enhancing bilateral security cooperation and defense interoperability.

At the conclusion of the day's discussions, Secretaries Clinton and Gates will join Ministers Smith and Fitzgibbon for a joint press conference in the State Department's Benjamin Franklin Room at 3:30 pm.

Pre-set times for cameras: 2:30 pm pickup from the 23rd Street entrance
Final access time for all press: 3:15 pm pickup from the 23rd Street entrance

Media representatives who plan to attend must present one of the following press credentials: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on original letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver's license or passport).
