Notice to the Press

U.S. Department of State and Brooklyn Academy of Music To Announce
DanceMotion USAsm at Foreign Press Centers in New York City and Washington, DC

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) will announce the launch of DanceMotion USAsm at a press briefing held at the Department’s New York Foreign Press Center (150 E. 52nd Street, 5th Floor, New York, New York, 10022), on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Professional and Cultural Exchanges Alina L. Romanowski will be joined by Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) President Karen Hopkins and Executive Director Joseph V. Melillo in presenting the new touring program to feature prestigious American modern dance companies. They will announce the tour countries and selected dance companies, whose members will perform and participate in other outreach including workshops, master classes, media interviews, and discussions with foreign artists and local audiences. These activities will serve as an opportunity for dialogue to deepen U.S. engagement with foreign audiences beyond that which is possible solely through performances.

Officials at U.S. embassies in three of the tour countries —Brazil, Venezuela, and Colombia— will participate via digital video conference. The ambassadors of all nine participating countries are invited guests.

In addition, the Department’s Washington Foreign Press Center (529 14th St NW, Suite 800, Washington, D.C. 20045) will take part in the press briefing via digital video conference.

This press briefing is open to representatives of both foreign and domestic media.
