Secretary Clinton to Deliver Barnard College Commencement Address

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will be the keynote commencement speaker at Barnard College's 117th Commencement ceremony to be held on Monday, May 18, 2009, at Columbia University, Morningside Campus, South Lawns, located at Broadway and 116th Street in Manhattan, beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Secretary Clinton will address an expected crowd of approximately 5,000 students, family members, faculty and staff of Barnard, including 585 members of the Class of 2009. Secretary Clinton will also receive the Barnard Medal of Distinction, the College’s highest honor.

Other distinguished honorees will be PepsiCo’s Chief Executive Officer Indra K. Nooyi; Harvard University’s William Dorr Boardman Professor of Fine Arts Irene J. Winter; and former general counsel to the New York City Department of Juvenile Justice Kay C. Murray.

Without prior registration, government-issued press identification will be required. All media must check in at the press information desk located on Broadway and 116th Street, which will open at 12:15 p.m.
