Question: Was the United States asked to provide assistance to the Iraqi’s in the wake of the bombings in Baghdad today?

Answer: The Government of Iraq has not requested United States government assistance in the aftermath of the coordinated attacks against the institutions of government in Baghdad that resulted in the deaths of dozens of people and the wounding of several hundred others.

We are prepared to provide assistance should it be requested, just as we continue to support the people and government of Iraq in combating all forms of violence.

We mourn the senseless loss of life and extend our condolences to the victims’ families, friends, and community.
