Inauguration of the Western Passport Center

Media Note
Office of the Spokesman
Washington, DC
October 19, 2009

The Western Passport Center, which opened its doors to the public September 8, was inaugurated October 19 by Department of State Under Secretary of State for Management Patrick F. Kennedy, Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Janice L. Jacobs, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Passport Services Brenda S. Sprague, and Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup.

The Western Passport Center (WPC) is co-located with the Tucson Passport Center, which opened in May 2008. WPC is a mega-processing center that examines passport applications from U.S. citizens across the country and provides a public counter at which to serve the urgent travel needs of citizens in the southwest region. The first passport facility of its kind, the WPC combines the efficiency of a high-volume production environment with personal customer service.
