Question: Can you confirm whether the Science Envoy will travel to North Africa? If so, what does he hope to accomplish during his visit?
Answer: The second U.S. Science Envoy, Dr. Elias Zerhouni, will embark on a 12-day trip to Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya early next month. However, his itinerary currently is being scheduled and may be subject to change.
During his North African trip, Dr. Zerhouni will meet with prominent government officials, as well as leading scientists and intellectuals to seek areas for cooperation on health, science, and technology.
Dr. Zerhouni departed February 10 for a ten-day trip to France, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. He will report his recommendations to the White House following each trip.
