Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs María Otero will travel to Geneva March 1-3, 2010 for the commencement of the 13th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council. She will deliver a speech at an opening session on March 1, to lay out U.S. priorities and suggested improvements for the HRC.
As Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs, Under Secretary Otero oversees the Bureaus of Population, Refugees and Migration; Democracy, Human Rights and Labor; Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs; and the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons.
