Notice to the Press
Office of the Spokesman
Washington, DC
April 13, 2010

Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs Arturo Valenzuela and Secretary of State’s Coordinator for International Energy Affairs David Goldwyn will brief the press on the upcoming Energy and Climate Ministerial of the Americas on Wednesday, April 14, at 12:15 p.m. in the Carl T. Rowan Press Briefing Room (Room 2209) of the U.S. Department of State.

The Energy and Climate Ministerial of the Americas will be held April 15-16 in Washington, D.C. The Ministerial will be hosted by Secretary of Energy Steven Chu with the participation of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

President Barack Obama proposed an Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) at the Fifth Summit of the Americas in April 2009. ECPA brings together countries from across the Western Hemisphere to facilitate the acceleration of clean energy development and deployment; advance energy security; and reduce energy poverty by sharing best practices, encouraging investment, and cooperating on technology research, development and deployment.

The special briefing is open for press coverage.

Media representatives may attend this event upon presentation of one of the following: (1) A U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport). Members of the press should use the 23rd Street entrance and allow 15 minutes to process through security.
