United States Deputy Secretary James B. Steinberg today held a cordial and productive meeting with Vice President and Foreign Minister of Panama Juan Carlos Varela. The leaders reaffirmed the strong friendship between the United States and Panama, as well as our mutual commitment to continue working closely on a broad range of bilateral and multilateral issues. These issues include addressing security challenges, strengthening democratic institutions, increasing trade, enhancing economic and social opportunity, and advancing regional cooperation.
