U.S. and Canada to Conduct Third Joint Survey of the Extended Continental Shelf in the Arctic

U.S. and Canadian officials will hold a technical briefing via teleconference call to preview the third joint scientific survey of the Extended Continental Shelf in the Arctic on Monday, July 26 at 1:00 p.m. EDT. This bilateral mission will continue the collaboration in extended continental shelf data collection in the Arctic started in 2008. The joint operations will be conducted from August 7 to September 3.

U.S. officials participating in the technical briefing will include: Margaret Hayes, Chair of U.S. Extended Continental Shelf Task Force, U.S. Department of State; Dr. Brian Edwards, Chief Scientist on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy, U.S. Geological Survey; and Jon Childs, Lead for the Seismic Data Operations Team for the U.S. Extended Continental Shelf Project, U.S. Geological Survey.

Canadian officials participating will include: Dr. Jacob Verhoef, Science Director responsible for the extended continental shelf at Natural Resources Canada; Dr. David Mosher, Chief Scientist on the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Louis S. St-Laurent; as well as representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada.
