The University of Iowa International Writing Program and CityDance Ensemble of Washington, D.C., in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, will present “EARTH: A Collaboration.” This informal evening of movement, music, and language, will take place on Friday, November 12, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. at Music Center at Strathmore, Studio 405 (5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda, Maryland).
Admission is free and open to the public.
The evening builds upon the State Department-supported cultural exchange generated by the International Writing Program’s Fall 2010 residency at the University of Iowa for writers from around the world, as well as the CityDance Ensemble’s recent travels to Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. Currently in its second year, the collaboration gathers – under the theme of "Earth" – writers and dancers together in the studios of CityDance as they seek inspiration from, and common language with, each other.
The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) promotes international mutual understanding through a wide range of academic, cultural, professional, and sports exchange programs. ECA exchanges engage youth, students, educators, artists, athletes, and emerging leaders in many fields in the United States and in more than 160 countries. Alumni of ECA exchanges comprise over one million people around the world, including more than 51 Nobel Laureates and more than 340 current or former heads of state and government.
