Ambassador Melanne S. Verveer will travel to Brussels, Belgium December 6th to participate in a European Development Days panel entitled “Gender Equality: Essential to Combating Poverty” and a high-level dinner co-hosted by EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme. She will also meet with NATO Assistant Secretary General Martin Howard and Mr. Jean-Claude Boidin, Head of Human Development, Social Cohesion, and Employment for the European Commission.
Following the Brussels visit, Ambassador Verveer will continue on to Kyiv, Ukraine where she and Ambassador Luis CdeBaca will hold meetings December 7-8th with government officials, business leaders, and NGO representatives to discuss a joint U.S.-Ukraine cooperation plan to address human trafficking.
On her last stop of this trip, Ambassador Verveer will go to Luxor, Egypt to participate, along with Ambassador CdeBaca, in the Luxor International Forum, “End Human Trafficking Now: Enforcing the UN Protocol,” taking place December 10-12th.
