Deputy Secretary James B. Steinberg will lead a high-level delegation to Asia December 14-17. The delegation, consisting of National Security Council Senior Director for Asian Affairs Jeffrey Bader, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell, and Special Envoy Sung Kim, will depart Washington, DC for Beijing, China on December 14. In Beijing, they will meet senior officials to continue consultations with the Chinese on regional security issues, including recent developments on the Korean Peninsula.
On December 17, Deputy Secretary Steinberg and NSC Senior Director Bader will return to Washington. Assistant Secretary Campbell will travel to Tokyo December 16. Ambassador Kim will travel to Seoul December 16. Campbell and Kim will independently return to Washington on December 17.
