The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) is pleased to announce the winners of its ExchangesConnect online Photo Contest, “Postcards from Home: Show Us Where You’re From.”

Majdal Nijem from the Palestinian Territories and Mary Spano of New York, New York are the contest winners. Nijem’s photo, “Frames,” depicts her experience of life as a Palestinian. Spano’s photo, “Flying Bubbles,” features native New Yorkers and visitors alike captivated in Central Park. ECA will award both Nijem and Spano with new netbook computers and their photographs will be displayed prominently at the Department of State in Washington, D.C. Eighteen runners-up from around the world will receive t-shirts and postcards featuring the top 20 submissions. To view the winning entries, please visit ExchangesConnect.

ECA invited citizens from around the world to submit an original photo depicting a unique aspect of their home to foster a global conversation and build cultural bridges.

ExchangesConnect community members representing 120 countries submitted more than 2,300 photos to the contest. The contest attracted over 2,700 new members to the community, boosting its membership to nearly 30,000.
