On Friday, January 14, Acting Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization Ambassador Robert Loftis will speak on “Southern Sudan: Using Innovative Tools for Local Empowerment” at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. As the referendum on self-determination in Sudan comes to a close, the Ambassador’s presentation will discuss the Civilian Response Corps’s role in preventing conflict and promoting regional stability. The United States has intensified diplomatic efforts in Sudan to support the CPA parties as they work toward full and timely implementation of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).
The event begins at 2:00 p.m. in the 6th Floor Auditorium of the Woodrow Wilson Center. Anyone interested in attending the event should email his or her name and affiliation to: leadership@wilsoncenter.org. Those who cannot attend in person are invited to watch the live webcast offered on the Wilson Center's website.
