Assistant Secretary for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs Jose W. Fernandez will speak at a roundtable meeting hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) on January 14, 2011, from 8:00 am to 9:00 am, at the Harold Pratt House in New York.
Assistant Secretary Fernandez will address U.S. Government efforts to foster development in an era of constrained resources, through projects like the Building Remittance Investment for Development, Growth and Entrepreneurship (BRIDGE) Initiative in Latin America. The BRIDGE Initiative is a multi-agency program to create sustainable economic growth in developing countries by harnessing the power of billions of dollars that workers abroad send home –without disrupting their use by the workers’ families.
He will also discuss the Global Entrepreneurship Program (GEP), a program that stems from the vision set forth by President Barack Obama to support and empower entrepreneurs in Muslim-majority and other communities around the world.
