Question: Will the U.S. send a representative to Geneva to participate in upcoming Cyprus talks?
Answer: We understand that the UN Secretary General is expected to meet President Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Eroglu in Geneva on January 26.
The United States is not a participant in the ongoing Cypriot-led negotiations and is not participating in the Geneva meeting.
The United States strongly supports the negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Good Offices Mission under Alexander Downer to reach a settlement reunifying the island as a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation.
