Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman is on official travel to Tunisia from January 24-January 26, 2011. While there, he will meet with government officials, political party leaders, and civil society advocates in order to convey U.S. support for the Tunisian people.
The United States seeks to be supportive of Tunisia’s democratic transition, while recognizing that this is a Tunisian-initiated, Tunisian-led process. Assistant Secretary Feltman will discuss ways in which the U.S. can be a constructive partner as Tunisia charts the course toward greater political and social freedoms, works to achieve transparent, credible and timely elections and as its government addresses the underlying political and economic grievances that led to the recent unrest.
