On February 1, Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs Esther Brimmer will be the featured speaker at the Brookings Institution for a program entitled “Revitalizing the United Nations and Multilateral Cooperation: The Obama Administration’s Progress.” Assistant Secretary Brimmer will deliver keynote remarks underscoring the critical role of U.S. multilateral diplomacy across the UN system in supporting U.S. national security and U.S. foreign policy goals, and previewing the Administration’s 2011 multilateral policy priorities.
U.S. Ambassador to Brazil Thomas Shannon also will participate in the program by offering thoughts on the growing role of Brazil and other emerging powers on the multilateral scene, and Bruce Jones, Senior Fellow and Director of the Managing Global Insecurity Project at Brookings, will contribute as well on U.S. efforts to reinvigorate multilateral engagement. Their remarks, followed by questions and answers, will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
