On Thursday, February 17, 2011, Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, William R. Brownfield signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Madison County, Tennessee Department of Community Corrections. This is the first MOU signed by INL with a county agency and will assist INL with meeting the increasing demand for additional subject matter expertise in community corrections, including probation and parole.
The Madison County Department of Community Corrections is a relatively small agency capable of providing subject matter expertise and training opportunities for INL’s foreign partners in the operation of probation and parole, community residential centers, electronic monitoring systems, and alternatives to incarceration. The small size of the department will facilitate interactions and coordination between INL and MCDCC and represents an excellent opportunity to explore and refine this expansion of INL training capacities.
