Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Maria Otero will travel to New York City to discuss human security issues with UN officials. While in New York she will meet with senior representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the UN Peacebuilding Commission, the UN Department of Political Affairs and the UN Department for Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) to discuss their work in these areas. Additionally, she will attend the Women in the World Summit.
As Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs, Maria Otero oversees the bureaus of Population, Refugees, and Migration; Democracy, Human Rights and Labor; Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs; the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons; and the Office of the Science and Technology Advisor. She also serves as the Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues.
