The State Department will host the fourth meeting of the People-to-People Working Group under the U.S.-Georgia Charter on Strategic Partnership on March 15, 2011. Deputy Assistant Secretaries of State Spencer Boyer and Alina Romanowski and Deputy Assistant Administrator Jonathan Hale of USAID will co-chair this session for the United States. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergi Kapanadze will lead the Georgian delegation.
The U.S.-Georgia Charter on Strategic Partnership was signed in January 2009 and meets several times each year in Washington and Tbilisi. Four bilateral working groups led by senior-level American and Georgian policy-makers – on democracy, security, economics, and people-to-people issues – convene regularly to review commitments, update activities, and establish future objectives.
The People-to-People Working Group will discuss areas of mutual interest including education, exchanges, culture, medical and social sectors, science and technology, and consular issues.
