Assistant Secretary for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs Jose W. Fernandez will host a conference entitled, “The Role of Biotechnology in Advancing African Agriculture - Partnering with the Private Sector,” on March 18, 2011. The purpose of this half-day gathering is to continue discussions between the African diplomatic corps and representatives of the biotech industry with a view to improving the investment climate for agricultural development in Africa.
This conference is the second in a three-part series that Assistant Secretary Fernandez is hosting for the African diplomatic corps. The first conference, on January 20, focused on government-to-government interaction and included over 25 African countries’ representatives. The third conference will involve nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and universities and is slated for early June.
