On April 12, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong hailed the importance of people-to-people engagement during the second annual U.S.-China Consultation on People-to-People Exchange (CPE). The CPE aims to enhance and strengthen ties between the citizens of the United States and China in the areas of culture, education, sports, science and technology, and women’s issues.
China is a major focus of interest for U.S. artists and arts professionals, as well as organizations that carry out exchanges for young leaders designed to enhance cross-cultural understanding. The CPE celebrated a number of successful cultural programs over the past year and looked ahead to coming exchanges as a means to further enhance cultural ties. Highlights included:
