Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Thomas Nides will travel to South Africa and Mozambique May 1-6, 2011. During this visit, Deputy Nides will attend a Conference on the President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in Johannesburg and the World Economic Forum in Cape Town. He will assess the impact of United States foreign assistance programs in South Africa and Mozambique, including PEPFAR and the Feed the Future Initiative. He will meet with South African and Mozambican leadership and with individuals who directly benefit from United States support in both countries.
The Deputy’s participation in the World Economic Forum will afford him the opportunity to participate in continent-wide planning sessions on the use of assistance to promote African development as well as opportunities to meet with South African and other African officials. Deputy Secretary Nides will return to Washington on May 6, 2011.
