Travel of Ambassador Melanne S. Verveer to France, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea

Melanne Verveer, Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, will travel to Paris, France to speak about women’s economic empowerment at the OECD Forum as part of the U.S. delegation to participate in the OECD Ministerial meeting and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO's) launch of the Global Partnership for Girls' and Women's Education meeting from May 25 to 27. She will then travel to the East Asia Pacific region from May 28 through June 1 to advance the U.S. Pacific Women’s Empowerment Initiative and meet with civil society groups and government officials to promote gender equality and inclusion. In Indonesia, from May 28 to 29, Ambassador Verveer will conduct a dialogue with civil society groups and visit a microfinance project. She will continue to Papua New Guinea on May 30 to join the Pacific Women’s Empowerment Initiative Policy Dialogue entitled “Healthy Women, Healthy Economies,” a collaboration between the World Bank and the Governments of Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Papua New Guinea. Secretary Clinton announced the initiative during her last visit to the region in November 2010.
