Special Advisor for Children’s Issues Ambassador Susan Jacobs and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Overseas Citizen Services James Pettit will lead a U.S. delegation to The Hague from June 1-10 for meetings regarding the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction and the 1996 Hague Convention on the Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Co-operation in Respect of Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of Children.
At The Hague, the U.S. delegation will participate in meetings to review the practical operations of the Abduction and Child Protection Conventions. Representatives from foreign governments and non-governmental organizations, including attorneys, judges, and academics, will discuss cooperation among Central Authorities, processing of applications for return and access, domestic violence and applications for return, access to justice, and the recently drafted guide to good practice for mediation.
