Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board To Meet June 7, 2011, in Washington, D.C.

The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board will convene June 7, 2011, for its quarterly meeting in Washington, D.C. Established by the U.S. Congress and appointed by the President of the United States, the 12-member Board supervises the Fulbright Program and establishes worldwide policies, including selection of students, scholars, teachers, and others to participate in the U.S. Government’s flagship international exchange program.

The Board Meeting, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. will be open to the public. Sessions will include a report from Assistant Secretary for Educational and Cultural Affairs Ann Stock (9:30 a.m.), followed by a report on programs in the Western Hemisphere from Deputy Assistant Secretary for Academic Programs Alina Romanowski (10:15 a.m.). A Panel of Binational Commission Executive Directors will feature Henry A. Harman Guerra, Commission for Educational Exchange between Peru and the United States; Mele Wendt, The New Zealand-United States Educational Foundation; and Arnaud Roujou de Boubée, Franco-American Commission for Educational Exchange (11:00 a.m.).

Preceding the Board Meeting, on Monday evening, June 6, the Ambassador of Peru and Mrs. Luis M. Valdivieso will honor the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, and Grantees, Alumni and Administrators of the U.S.-Peru Fulbright Program with a reception at the Ambassador’s Residence in Washington, D.C. Ambassador and Mrs. Valdivieso are Fulbright Program alumni.

Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided over 300,000 participants from more than 155 countries with the opportunity to study, teach, conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
