Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William J. Burns will travel to Dubrovnik, Croatia, July 8-9, 2011, to attend the Croatia Summit. He will deliver remarks at the Opening Session of the Summit, the theme of which is “A New Decade for South East Europe – Finalizing the Transition.”
In Dubrovnik, Under Secretary Burns will underscore the progress that has been made in South East Europe over the past two decades, the continued commitment of the United States to the region, and the common belief that European and Euro-Atlantic integration represent the best path forward for the countries of the Western Balkans.
The Under Secretary will meet with Croatian President Ivo Josipovic, Prime Minister Kosor, and Foreign Minister Jandrokovic. He will also meet with Albanian Prime Minister Berisha, Bulgarian Prime Minister Borissov and Foreign Minister Mladenov, Slovenian Prime Minister Pahor, Austrian Foreign Minister Spindelegger, European Commission Enlargement Commissioner Füle, and other officials.
