QUESTION: Has Kenya asked us for assistance in combating al-Shabaab?
ANSWER: The United States and Kenya are longstanding partners in the fight against terrorism in East Africa.
For many years, the United States has provided capacity building assistance to help Kenya defend its land and maritime border against terrorist threats and armed incursion. The United States is not participating in Kenya's current operation in Somalia.
