Dr. Tomicah Tillemann, Secretary Clinton’s Senior Advisor for Civil Society and Emerging Democracies, will represent the United States on November 17th at the second meeting of the Governing Council of the Community of Democracies (CD). Senior officials from more than twenty countries will convene in Washington, DC to take part in the event.
The recent inauguration of the Governing Council represents the culmination of a year-long effort to transform the Community of Democracies into a platform for strengthening emerging democracies and civil society around the world. The November 17th meeting will include reports on recent CD missions to support democratic transitions in Tunisia and Moldova. Members of the Governing Council will also discuss new initiatives and future activities of the CD.
