Question: Please provide a readout of Beth Jones’ meetings in Pakistan. Was there any discussion of Ambassador Haqqani during her meetings?
Answer: While in Pakistan last week, Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador Beth Jones met with Pakistani officials to follow up on Secretary Clinton’s visit. They discussed the continued need for counterterrorism cooperation and action against insurgent safe havens; the importance of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the United States working together; and economic issues. The issue of Ambassador Haqqani’s status did not come up during official meetings.
